A lot of Mac users including me have complained about their search queries being redirected to Yahoo search in Google chrome. It is as annoying as it gets so how do we remove Yahoo search from Chrome permanently?
It is evident that it is some sort of virus that hijacks the Chrome browser.
If you have noticed, the browser shuts down completely once the virus makes its appearance.
Once you open the Chrome browser again and make a search query now, it will redirect it to the Yahoo search engine.
So if you want to remove the Yahoo search from Chrome, this is what you have to do:
- Step 1: To remove Yahoo Search Engine, go to System preferences in Mac and find the “Profiles” tab
- Step 2: Click on “AdvancedNetworkSearch” profile and click the ‘ – ‘ icon
-
Step 3: Select Confirm to remove Yahoo search engine from Chrome
- Step 4: Go to Chrome>Window>Extensions and look for “AdvancedNetSearch” Extension. Click Remove.
Voila! You’re done.
Now all your search queries will go to Google itself as it used to before. Browse with peace!
The reason why I suggested to remove AdvancedNetSearch Profile from Mac system preferences was that it makes sure that it removes search.yahoo.com browser hijacker from google chrome permanently from the roots.
I hope it works for you guys.

You’re welcome, Paola! 🙂
Hi! Since I have updated my Mac to macOS Big Sur I have the same problem but I don’t have the “profiles” icon on system preference dock. Could you help with that?
Hi Valeria,
In that case, just go to the chrome browser, window > extensions. You’ll find the “AdvancedNetSearch” extension which must be installed. Disable it and then click remove.
Let me know if it helps.
Hi, the problem is that is not possible to remove it from that window 🙁
I switched to another browser….
Hi Valeria,
I have made a video tutorial on this. Please have a look at the same here: https://youtu.be/ey7uElhw5P0
